Thomas W. Scott account book, 1838-1916 (bulk 1838-1857).

This account book records debits and credits to the account of Sarah Ann Raiford, minor, kept by her tutor, Thomas W. Scott. Her income came from the sale of cotton and corn and her expenditures suggest she was heir to a plantation in Louisiana. It also records similar accounts kept by Scott for Daniel Waddelle, James B. Preusett, William A. Richardson, and the estates of several deceased people. Notes on cotton trading appear throughout the account book and other notes suggest the business was transacted in East Feliciana Parish, La. These accounts cover the years 1838-1857. The remainder of the account book was used to record milk production from individual cows between November 1915 and August 1916. A calendar (1898) and invoice (1899) are also included.
