The papers contain letters, journals, business, legal, political and diplomatic documents. Correspondence includes letters to Fernando from his mother Josefa Maria Tinoco conveying news from home; a letter from Susanna Little to Fernando describing a visit to Caracas; a letter describing efforts to arrange an introduction to the Marquis de Lafayette; a letter from a C. Moore regarding a recent visit and the agreeable climate in the páramo; a letter to his uncle Simón Bolívar thanking him for educating him at Germantown and the University of Virginia; a letter from General Pedro Briceño Mendez to Simon Bolivar urging him to come to Colombia; a letter from Daniel Florence O'Leary to Fernando Bolívar describes the situation in Europe in 1834; a letter to Fernando from Maria Antonia Bolívara requesting the loan of a 1000 pesos; a letter from [José Tadeo?] Monagas to Fernando Bolívar asking him to welcome back a political exile Miguel Mugica;a letter from Gobiernos Carlos Soublette on the repayment of a debt; a letter from Antonio Leocadio Guzmán concerning the installation of an "American Congress." The collection also contains a list of personal effects from the estate of Simón Bolívar; a document concerning the purchase of a slave Petronila, by [Fernando Bolívar?]; various passports and visas of Fernando Bolívar; a list of personal effects from the estate of Simón Bolívar, a document regarding the dispositon of his clothing, and a letter concerning a box that belonged to him; a membership certificate in the Society of Economic Friends of Caracas; military appointments; a contract concerning the sale of Greek and Roman antiquities [to Fernando Bolívar?]; a memoranda book containing "Reminiscences and memories of ... Rivolba," a pseudonym used by Fernando Bolívar, together with drafts of letters written by him in Paris, 1870-1873; minutes from a planned Simón Bolívar centennial celebration; and an electrostatic copy of an article about Fernando Bolívar's memoirs. The collection also contains miscellaneous documents pertaining to the Bolívar family including a baptismal certificate; legal documents (testimonies) concerning property ownership; papers concerning the Simón Bolívar estate, its handling by Antonio Guzmán and a lawsuit against him brought by Fernando Bolívar; a death certificate for Benjamin Bolívar; and a program and news release, 2002, concerning a luncheon celebrating the University of Virginia's Latin American connection.
