Asa Earl Martin collection of Pennsylvania historical documents, and Civil War letters, 1709-1962.

The Asa Martin collection includes primarily land ownership documents from thirteen central Pennsylvania counties between 1775 and 1837. Additional materials of interest include items from John Wunderlich (also Wonderlich or Wonderly) concerning legal guardianship of orphans in Cumberland County after 1811. Also included are: 21 Civil War letters from various soldiers; a facsimile set of courtship letters by Alexander Farnsley to Mary Elizabeth Thurman ("Miss Bettie") of Kentucky dated 1856 to 1860; and an 1811 pass written by Anne Snowden for a former slave woman to travel unmolested from Prince George County, Maryland, to Pennsylvania. Some of the land documents are filed separately due to poor condition.
