Symons was a member of the Saginaw Rotary Club and a banker. At one point he lived in East Tawas (Mich.). He died on Aug. 7, 1935. Symons had been an influential citizen and fly fisherman. The Swimming Deer Club was founded by business men from Detroit, Toledo, and Saginaw on the north branch of the AuSable. The stadium at Central Michigan University is named, in part, for Shorts. Maybee was a history professor at CMU. The Clarke Historical Library has several of his publications and his papers. The Advisory Committee developed plans for major events, publications, re-dedications of campus buildings, presentations, and a historical marker for CMU's 75th Anniversary. Shorts (Dec. 30, 1879-Aug. 12, 1975) was the son of Robert and Eliza Jane (Armstrong) Shorts. He had three siblings: Bruce C., W. Warren, and Mrs. Hannah M. Shorts Vowles, for whom Vowles Elementary School was named. Shorts graduated from Central Michigan University (CMU) (1900) and the Univ. of Michigan's (UM) Law Dept. (1906).
