Includes a brief and exhibits related to failed contract negotiations between Local 34 and the Master Bakers' Association representing Des Moines bakeries. Bakery and Confectionary Workers Local 34 was chartered in 1933. In 1935, after a two week strike, the local obtained its first contract with the bakeries in Des Moines. The local represented workers at Continental Baking Company, Colonial Baking, Schulze Baking, Zinsmasters Breads, Inc., Ungles Baking, the Supreme Baking Company, Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company, and Omar, Inc. Local 34's 1943 contract attempted to gain vacation rights and night shift differential pay for their members....
