This collection contains materials relating to the life and works of Julia Klumpkey. Items of a personal nature include letters, newspaper clippings, documents, brochures, and a few photographs. These items are organized by type of material. There is also more recent correspondence that provides some detailed biographical information about Klumpkey's life as well as about the provenance of this collection. Julia Klumpkey (1870-1961), violinist and composer, was a native of San Francisco. She attended the New England Conservatory of Music in 1894-1895 and received a diploma in violin performance in 1895. While at NEC, Klumpkey studied violin with Emil Mahr and Hermann Hartmann, and composition with Percy Goetschius.
