Savage family papers, 1688-1927; bulk: 1711-1891.

Savage family papers contain the business and personal papers of generations of the Savage and Shaw families. The bulk of the collection contains correspondence between Charles, Henry, and Samuel Hay Savage, who worked as export and import merchants in Central America, Guatemala, and El Salvador, regarding business and family affairs, ca. 1820-1890. Collection also contains the personal, legal, and business papers of Samuel P. Savage, a merchant, judge, and justice of the peace in Boston and Weston, Mass. including a bound volume recording court decisions in the Middlesex County court, 1787-90; records related to his position as chairman of the Massachusetts Board of War during the Revolutionary War, including receipts for supplies, 1777; and receipts and accounts from his business as a merchant in Boston, ca. 1750-70. Other Savage and Shaw family members represented are Dr. Samuel and Hope (Doane) Savage of Barnstable, Susannah (Hayward) Shaw and her sister Sarah Hayward, and Arthur and Faith (later Russell) Savage.
