Papers, undated, include typed poems, ballads, lumberman songs, and one piece of music. The papers were probably collected by Beck ca. 1930s. Also included are biographical materials (copies), recordings of his musical group singing lumberjack songs (2 cassettes), and ballads, lumberjack songs and cowboy songs (2 audiodiscs and 3 CDs), and five printing blocks of his portrait.

Maybee was a history professor at CMU. The Clarke Historical Library has several of his publications and his papers. The Advisory Committee developed plans for major events, publications, re-dedications of campus buildings, presentations, and a historical marker for CMU's 75th Anniversary. Beck (1891-1977) was born in Hickman (Neb.), the son of Cornelius Porter and Louisa (Theade) Beck. He attended several colleges, earning a B.A. and M.A. from the University of Nebraska, a second master's degree from Harvard, and a Ph. D. from the George Peabody College. He worked as a teacher and educator, and in the English Dept. at Central Michigan University (CMU), 1928-1958. He was a member of a musical group that sang lumberjack songs.
