John W. Bruce (1857-1911) was born in N.S., Canada and emmigrated to the U.S. (1880), settling in Gunnison, Gunnison County, Colo. The family later lived in Paonia, Colo. before moving to Denver, Colo. in 1919. John W. Bruce served as Justice of the Peace for Gunnison County and his wife, Sophie also operated the Paonia Post Office for a number of years.
