Two items re Confederate government's use of Brookes' horse and crops, including letter, 19 Dec. 1863, from Jos[eph] A. Lawton, Allendale, S.C., to Brookes sending $1834.50 to Brookes & Mr. Mike Calhoun for "horse impressed by Government agent"; and purchase receipt, 30th September 1864, from the Confederate States of America for eighteen thousand and sixty bushels of corn, signed by Captain Abraham Huguenm, Quartermaster.
