States that her Afro-American students made as good if not better progress than her white students and that this can be confirmed by W.H. Burleigh, who taught in her school for Afro-American girls in Canterbury, Conn. She adds that the minister of the Canterbury church refused to step into her house to perform the marriage ceremony uniting her and Calvin Philleo.
