William N. Vaile was born in Kokomo, Ind. on June 22, 1876, and moved with his family to Denver, Colo. in 1881. Joel Frederick Vaile (1846-1916) was general counsel for Denver and Rio Grande Railroad. He had four children: William Newell Vaile (1876-1927), a Colorado Congressman; Lucretia Vaile (1884-1976), librarian at the Denver Public Library; Gertrude (1878-1954), a prominent Denver social worker; and Luis F. Vaile (1880-1957), an engineer in Calif. HIs grandson, Joel Frederick Vaile II (1917-1952) served in World War II as a military governor in Germany who later served on the War Crimes Commission. ...
