Correspondence, essays, photographs, and newspaper clippings of William Stickney; much of the material is related to Peary's 1897 expedition to Greenland, of which Stickney was a member. Collection contains articles on Arctic subjects, including Among the Greenland Eskimos (The New Voice, Jan. 1899) by Charles Schubert and The phantoms of the Poles : William Reed's arguments to prove that the earth is hollow (1906). Collection also contains an album with newspaper clippings about Arctic explorers Andrée, Greely, Nansen, and Peary and an album with newpaper clippings about Peary and his 1897 Greenland expedition. Collection also includes some photographs and a sermon written in Eskimo.

Adolphus Washington Greely (b. March 27, 1844, Newburyport, Massachusetts-d. October 20, 1935, Washington, D.C.) served throughout the American Civil War and remained in the army at the war's close. Stickney was born in Bethel, Vt., in 1878. He was graduated from Dartmouth College in 1900 and from Harvard Medical School in 1903. He was one of the two Dartmouth students who participated in a summer study program in Greenland with Dartmouth professor C.H. Hitchcock.
