Land Grant Certificate, 1871.

Land grant certificate to O-saw-waw-bun, a member of the Saginaw, Swan Creek and Black River band in Isabella County (Mich.). It notes that O-saw-waw-bun was "competent," meaning he was literate. The grant was signed by Pres. Ulysses S. Grant on May 27, 1871 and recorded in the Chippewas of Saginaw, Swan Creek and Black River Book v. 1, p. 154.
