[Letter] 1694/5 Jan. 23, Haverhil [to] Sir [William Stoughton] / Nath'll: Saltonstall.

Saltonstall's letter to William Stoughton, then acting governor of the Province of Massachusetts Bay, together with Stoughton's answer at the bottom of the letter, dated Jan. 31, 1694/5, Boston. The letters concern military matters and the cost of the standing militia.

Nathaniel Saltonstall was a leading citizen of Haverhill where he was town clerk from 1668-1700. Though he was a member of the court during the Salem Witch Trials, he apparently resigned before the actual trials began. William Stoughton was also a member of the court and sat as both prosecutor and judge at the Trials.
