Saltonstall, Nathaniel, ca. 1639-1707.
Nathaniel Saltonstall was a leading citizen of Haverhill where he was town clerk from 1668-1700. Though he was a member of the court during the Salem Witch Trials, he apparently resigned before the actual trials began. William Stoughton was also a member of the court and sat as both prosecutor and judge at the Trials. He was acting governor of the Province of Massachusetts Bay from Dec. 1674-May 1699 and Jul. 1700-Jul. 1701.
