The Boulderado Hotel opened with a New Year's Eve Ball in 1908-1909, and was Boulder's first luxury hotel. This five-story hotel located at 2115 13th Street was the brainchild of three prominent men, Fred Moys, Jonas Bergheim and Walter Nichols, who urged all Boulderites to subscribe to a $100,000 fund drive in 1906. In 1911 he opened a branch at 1134 13th St. on the Hill, which was operated by his brother, Ernest. Ernest worked at that store as manager until 1945, when, after Alfred's death, the store was sold to Eb Smith.
