The collection consists of papers accumulated by Mr. Nelson's company during the period of its operation. Most of the papers pertain to corporations and mining industry particularly in the Coeur d'Alene mining area. There are Offering Circulars, Quarterly and annual reports, records of annual meetings and solicitations of proxies, correspondence, promotional materials, and newspaper and magazine articles about mining and corporate affairs.

The Spokane Stock Exchange was founded in 1897 and functioned for more than two decades as a sort of gentlemen's club of brokers. From time to time, the exchange virtually ceased operations.
