Julius W. Hobson was a civil rights activist, civic leader, and elected official. He held leadership positions with the Federation of Civic Associations (1956-1959), NAACP (1950-1959), CORE (1960-1964), ACT (1964-1969). He was elected to the Board of Education in 1969 and to the City Council in 1974 and died in office in 1977.
