Howes graduated from Ithaca public schools and Central Michigan University. He married Celia Beracy in 1940 and together they had four children. A life long resident of Ithaca (Mich.), Howes served as fire chief. Due to his love of local history he was called "Mr. Ithaca." Myron Holmes (1830-1863) married and had two daughters. He died of disease while a Corporal in Co. D, 26th Michigan Infantry. Gilbert served as a corporal in Company E, Michigan 5th Cavalary. Except for a brief service record,...
