The majority of the collection consists of correspondences and papers relating to the Alaskan earthquake and tsunami of 1964, the Hilo Harbor Tsunamis, and a boat landing project for Long Beach Harbor. There are also notebooks of other projects on which Wilson worked.

Basil W. Wilson was a consulting oceanographic engineer based in Pasadena, California. Wilson was a professor of Engineering Oceanography at Texas A&M University from 1952-1961. From 1961 to 1964 he conducted studies for the National Engineering Science Company in Pasadena, California. Wilson went into private practice in 1968 as a consulting oceanographic engineer whose work included earthquake occurrence and effects in ocean areas, tsunami hazards, surge studies in Long Beach harbor, and w...
