Margaret Porch Hamilton diaries, 1905-1922.

Diaries span 17 years in the life of Margaret Porch Hamilton, from shortly after her marriage to Frances Marion Hamilton until two years after the passage of the 19th (Equal Rights) Amendment. The entries record routine, domestic activities, attendance at concerts, lectures, visits to museums, and social gatherings with both family and friends, and many of her charitable and civic activities. Among Hamilton's friends were the J. Pierpont Morgans. Hamilton comments on news events such as the 1905 riot in St. Petersburg, Russia, 1906 San Francisco earthquake, banking panic of 1907, 1908 New York to Paris auto race, 1913 International Exhibition of Modern Art (Armory Show), and in 1917 (pre-entry of the U.S. into World War I), and the severance of diplomatic relations between the U.S. and Germany. Most of the 1910 diary is filled with the death and aftermath of her infant daughter who was 6 weeks old.
