Consists of letters and papers of Hoagland Howard (Hoagy) Carmichael, 1899-1981. Included in the collection are letters, 1921-1923, concerning Carmichael's college band; original draft of an undated telegram from Carmichael to Howard Allen on the occasion of a reunion of the class of 1926 of Indiana University; correspondence, 1943-1949, on the making of the motion picture, Young Man with a Horn; letters of thanks for his public appearances, etc. Manuscripts of Carmichael's musical compositions included are I Love You in December, Isle of Capri, Ivy, Little Old Lady, Memphis in June, and Music Master.
