Travel journals, 1877.

Travel journals, Jan. 4-Feb. 3, 1877, Feb. 14-March 22, 1877, of a boy, describing his trip to Europe, including: Italy, Rome, Florence and Naples (Italy), Dresden (Germany), and Paris (France). He did many fanciful and interesting drawings and sketches, and added photographs and postcards. The journals were sent to his grandfather, Charles C. Trowbridge, Detroit banker and land speculator. Also included are a shopping list of things to buy in Europe or for the trip, undated; a note to him dated Jan. 24, 1877 from a bookstore about the price of books; and a generic letter from Louise Schafer (sp?) in Naples dated April 18, 1877.

C.C. Trowbridge was born in Albany, New York on December 29, 1800. he entered business and came to Detroit in 1819. A year later he joined Governor Lewis Cass on his exploration of Lake Superior, becoming his private secretary. Trowbridge was secretary to the Board of Regents of the University of Michigan, 1821-1835. He was cashier of Bank of Michigan, 1825-1836; president of Michigan State Bank, 1844-1853; and was secretary and cashier before serving as president of the Oakland & Ottawa Rai...

Wilkins was the grandson of Charles Christopher Trowbridge, Detroit (Mich.) banker and land speculator. The Clarke has a thesis by Jack F. Kilfoil entitled, "C.C.
