Jameson studied at Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh ca. 1814-1818 and made several voyages as a ship's surgeon to Baffin's Bay and South America, 1818-1826. He taught chemistry and botany at the University in Quito, Ecuador and also served as assayer to the mint in Quito, 1832-1869. He published articles for several British and Scottish botanical journals and wrote the first two volumes of Synopsis plantarum æquatoriensium (1865) on the flora of Ecuador but never completed this work. ...
