Jameson, William 1796-1873
Variant namesJameson studied at Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh ca. 1814-1818 and made several voyages as a ship's surgeon to Baffin's Bay and South America, 1818-1826. He taught chemistry and botany at the University in Quito, Ecuador and also served as assayer to the mint in Quito, 1832-1869. He published articles for several British and Scottish botanical journals and wrote the first two volumes of Synopsis plantarum æquatoriensium (1865) on the flora of Ecuador but never completed this work.
