Papers, 1854-1863, include: an appraisal note, Dec. 40, 1854; a letter on the letterhead of the Provost Marshall's Office, Corunna (Mich.), dated June 1, 1863, appointing someone a special officer to detect and arrest spies and deserters; another appointment letter on letterhead of the Headquarters Provost Marshall's Office, Corunna to William Brunson of St. Johns (Mich.), appointing him Deputy Provost Marshall, dated June 14, 1863; a letter to Brunson from Headquarters Provost Marshall's Office, Flint (Mich.), dated Aug. 15, 1864, ordering Brunson to the Upper Peninsula to have enrolling officers erase the names of those men who are not liable to military draft.
