Donald Chaput collection.

This collection consists of negative photocopies of three letters, dating from 1834-1838, from the Rev. Able Bingham, a Baptist missionary at Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., to General T. Brown of Wheatland, Monroe County, Mich., concerning the mission and life at Sault Ste. Marie. The collection also includes a negative photocopy of one letter written jointly by Rev. Bingham and his wife, Hannah Bingham, to their daughter, Angelina, June 11, 1847, giving news of family and friends.

Abel Bingham, born April 5, 1820, served as a missionary among Indians at Tonnawanda, New York (1822-1827) and Sault St. Marie, Michigan (1828-1855), and opened mission schools at each site.
