Records of the NAACP Reno-Sparks include minutes; reports; resolutions; financial materials; photographs; reports from the Nevada Advisory Committee of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights; resolutions of support from Reno organizations; biographical sketches of William Bailey and Nathaniel S. Colley; forms registering complaints about discrimination in restaurants and motels; statistics on the status of population shifts, housing, education, and voting; and a file on the case of Mary Rucker, who was refused admittance to the Primadonna Club (casino) in Reno in 1960. SURE materials include minutes, constitution and bylaws, correspondence, newsletters, public accommodations survey and report, civil rights rally material, Russell G. Benedict speech on civil rights, community resolutions of support, and Nevada civil rights legislative materials. The Reno-Sparks Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) was established in 1945 by Alice L. and Alfred O. Smith.
