Herbert Govert Keppel was born in Zeeland, Michigan on April 7, 1866 and died in Gainesville, Florida on October 5, 1918. He received the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in 1901 from Clark University. He came to the University of Florida in 1908 as professor of mathematics and became head of the Department of Mathematics before his death.
