Annual report by Navajo agent D.M. Riordan to the Commissioner of Indian Affairs, Hiram Price, written Aug. 14, 1883 after Riordan had submitted his resignations. The blunt report outlines the "gross wrongs perpetrated by the government on the Navajos and on the Navajo Agency."

Hiram Price was a Pennsylvania native who moved to Davenport, Iowa in 1844 where he served as a bank president (1859-1866, 1873), county official, and U.S. Representative (38th-40th, 45th & 46th Congresses). He was U.S. Commissioner of Indian Affairs from 1881-1885 and resided in Washington, D.C. from that time until his death in 1901.
