Collection includes black and white photographs of: a group including Porterfield's mother, Helen Vowles, at the Isabella County Fair, 1917; a portrait of Helen Vowles, 1917; an unidentified kindergarten class at CMU in Mount Pleasant (Mich.), 1916; and individual and traveling photographs of the CMU Student Army Training Corps (CMUSATC), who traveled from Mt. Pleasant to Fort Custer in Battle Creek (Mich.) and then to Waco (Tex.) to be formed into the 32nd Infantry. The featured lieutenant may be Lt. Dancer who was in charge of CMUSATC in 1919. The photographs were identified by the donor, John Porterfield.

Porterfield (b. 12/23/1924) earned a B.S. with a major in Chemistry and a minor in Math from CMU in 1950. He lives in Weidman. Both of his parents were CMU graduates. Maybee was a history professor at CMU. The Clarke Historical Library has several of his publications and his papers. The Advisory Committee developed plans for major events, publications, re-dedications of campus buildings, presentations, and a historical marker for CMU's 75th Anniversary.
