Geneticist. John Gowan (1893-1967), a native of Florida, received his B.S. (1914) and M.S. (1915) from the University of Maine. He received his Ph.D (1917) from Columbia University, was a biologist at the Maine Agricultural Experiment Station (1921-1926), and at the Rockefeller Institute for Medical Research (1926-1937).
