Collection includes: diaries, photographs, land deeds, indentures, estate and tax papers, correspondence and Newark business brochures. Of interest: a New York College of Dentistry valedictorian speech delivered by Dr. Charles M. Howe (1873); a religious journal (1844) kept by Dr. John M. Howe, including sermons heard while studying medicine in Vermont; and ledgers of the Howe Paper Tube Company (1895-1919). Papers include genealogical materials collected by George R. Howe for John M. Reid's "Filial Tribute to the Memory of Rev. John Moffat Howe (1889). Included are letters of instruction and other military papers of Major Bezaleel Howe (1750-1825), who served as George Washington's bodyguard during the Revolution. Other family genealogies include: Jenkins, Bernard, Moffat, Barber, Rowland, Houghton, and Kip.
