[Aberdeen Pheasants Scrapbooks, 1949-1954].

Scrapbooks contain primarily newspaper clippings documenting the 1949-1954 seasons of the Aberdeen (South Dakota) Pheasants of the Class C Northern League. Included among the clippings are articles documenting league activity, recaps of games, biographical sketches of contemporary and former players, and numerous cartoons (including player bios and game scores with the Pheasant caricatiure). Statistical information includes year end averages, weekly standings, and weekly team batting and pitching composite averages. Items of note include the 1949 team roster with home addresses that was signed by each player, news coverage of the 1951 fire at the ballpark in Aberdeen, and team photographs from a few years. Players of note included in these scrapbooks include Aberdeen's Bob Turley (1949 scrapbook), Tito Francona (1953), Don Larsen (who played with Aberdeen in 1947 and 1948) and Hank Aaron, who played with Eau Claire (1952).

He attended Central High School in Mobile, Alabama and transferred to the private Josephine Allen Institute, where he graduated in 1951.
