Chiefly correspondence of family of Carlile and Laura Elmore Davant Courtenay and their children, Carlile Courtenay, Jr. (1910-1951), Joy Davant Courtenay (1911- ), and Charles Davant Courtenay (1914- ), as well as members of the extended family, including Laura Courtenay's father, Dr. Charles Davant (1839-1903), and sisters Mamie and Lissie. Also including courtship letters from Carlile Courtenay to Laura Davant prior to their marriage in 1910; letters from Carlile Courtenay as he traveled the state of South Carolina as financial agent for The Rescue Orphanage of South Carolina, later known as Carlile Courtenay Home and Carolina Children's Home.
