Papers, 1770-1925 (bulk 1770-1870).

The collection documents the affairs and genealogy of this extended family, and provides information on the history of upstate New York, including field notes (by Seth Pease and Mr. Stoddard) surveying land west of the Genesee River (1772-1843). Of special interest: physician's notebook of medical formulae(1729-1734); list of masonic lodges until 1735; diary kept by James Reynolds during 1772 sea voyage aboard the ship, Mary and Elizabeth (James Sparks, captain) with a reference to John Woolman, a passenger; an account of scalpings by Seneca Indians during the Revolutionary War; drawings by Dr. Edward Cutbush (1787) and by his father, a shipyard carver; log kept by Capt. George W. Endicott (1836) aboard his ship, the Eunomus, on a voyage from Boston to Rio de Janeiro. Also, an article by F.L. Pleadwell (Annals of Medical History, 1923) describing the life and writings of Dr. Edward Cutbush (1772-1843). Papers include letters of Aaron Burr, Robert Morris, Thomas Morris and Henry R. Schoolcraft.
