Charouleau papers, 1895-1960 (bulk 1934-1958)

Correspondence, real estate documents, photographs, films and travel diaries relating to Charouleau's Tucson real estate, boxer Jack Willis, and travel to Hawaii. Includes correspondence and photographs of Jack Willis. There are also photographs of Barrio Historico streets and homes in the 1950s, including images of a police car and of St. Augustine Cathedral, as well as photograph albums of children's parties, given in the 1950s and 1960s, by Tucson Firefighters and Tucson Police Officers at Comstock Hospital, Covered Wells Mission in Sells, and the Arizona School for the Deaf and Blind. One photograph shows George Roskruge and other pioneers posed on a stage coach and a nother shows Peter Ronstadt and his musical group performing at a Fraternal Order of Police party. A travel diary relates experiences from a trip around the world; another diary by an unknown writer records daily activities and health from 1909 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, California, and briefly in Lowell, Ariz. about 1921.

Born in 1884 in Tucson, Arizona, daughter of Pierre and Angelina Charouleau, ranchers. She lived in California from 1900 to 1930, then returned to Tucson where she developed properties in downtown Tucson and was active in civic affairs. She was interested in professional boxing and promoted boxer Jack Willis from 1934 to 1935. Pioneer Arizona surveyor; appointed U.S. deputy land and mineral surveyor in 1880, served four years as Pima County surveyor and three years as City Engineer of Tucson, and in 1893 was appointed chief clerk in the U.S. Surveyor General's Office.
