Roskruge, George James, 1845-1928.
Pioneer Arizona surveyor; appointed U.S. deputy land and mineral surveyor in 1880, served four years as Pima County surveyor and three years as City Engineer of Tucson, and in 1893 was appointed chief clerk in the U.S. Surveyor General's Office. Also served as U.S. Surveyor General from 1896 to 1897. He is known as the father of Arizona Masonry and was the National Rifle Association Secretary for Arizona.

Logan City, Ariz. is 65 miles west of Tucson. It was established in 1883 following the discovery of silver ore in the Quijotoa Mining District. By 1886, the mining boom ended and most residents moved on. The town was named for John T. Logan and William R. Logan; two of the partners of the Logan Townsite and Well Company. Other partners were James H. Shotwell and George J. Roskruge. George Roskruge was a surveyor and surveyed the town.

Biographical note: Henry Buehman was a well-known Tucson photographer beginning in 1874. Throughout its long history, the Buehman Studio employed many assistants who went on to open their own photography businesses. George Roskruge was a surveyor and was the county surveyor in 1882-1883; however, he was also an accomplished photographer (see PC 114).
