The collection consists of personal papers of Richard B. Russell from 1897-1970. The majority of the collection relates to his service as an U.S. Senator (1933-1971). These records include intra-office materials; speeches and newsclippings; subject files; personal files including correspondence from his parents, invitations, trip files, and financial/business materials; political files relating mainly to his senatorial campaigns and his 1952 presidential campaign; records relating to political patronage; files relating to various Senate committees; and files relating to civil rights issues and international affairs.
