Contains correspondence primarily to James Junius Goodwin and his wife, Josephine Sarah "Sallie" (Lippincott) Goodwin. Correspondents include Goodwin's parents James Goodwin and Lucy (Morgan) Goodwin, his sisters Mary Goodwin and Sarah Morgan (Goodwin) Brownell, his brother Francis Goodwin, his son Walter L., his in-laws J. Bertram Lippincott and Josephine (Craige) Lippincott, his brother-in-law J. Bertram "Bertie" Lippincott, his uncle Junius Spencer Morgan, and his cousin J. Pierpont Morgan. Born in 1813, Junius Spencer Morgan began his career first as a partner with the firm Morris Ketchum in New York, and then as a partner with Howe, Mather & Co. in Hartford. James Lippincott Goodwin was an architect, forester, and conservationist. He received a masters degree in forestry from Yale University in 1910 and became a private forestry consultant, as well as a landscape architect.
