The Highland cottage, 1832.

Carne sent this manuscript as a letter to Frederic Mansel Reynolds, editor of The Keepsake, London, postmarked 2 July 1832, from Kengie, Penzance. The tale was designed to illustrate an engraving, rather than the other way around, and appears to be the first draft with extensive corrections.
