Family Papers, 1933,1951.

The Family Papers consist mosty of the diaries and diary transcriptions of Icem C. Slentz, 1933-1948. The diares describe daily weather reports, farm chores, visitors, and local and family news. Interestingly, the only mention of World War II is May 8-9, 1945, Victory in Europe Day. Also included are memoirs of son Floyd Slentz, a biographical sketch of Icem, and a Slentz Family History, 1933-1951.

The Michigan State Grange was formally organized on April 15, 1873 at the Court House in the Village of Kalamazoo. The formation united the twenty local Granges that had already been established in 1872. The first local grange organized was Burnside Grange #1 on January 10, 1872 in Lapeer County. Icem (June 15 1868-Aug. 6, 1948) married Jennie Davies on Feb. 1, 1893. The couple farmed, represented Isabella County at the State Grange meeting in 1929, and rotated living between Clare and Mount Pleasant, Mich.
