Papers, 1953-[ongoing].

The collection contains biographical information, lists, telephone and address books, calendars, correspondence, school papers, notes, and exams, laboratory reports, printed materials, committee work, seminars, lecture notes, student evaluations, conferences and trips, visits by companies and scholars, grant proposals, research notebooks, publications, research data, and photographs. These papers document the development of Thiel's career and in addition to biographical information, also includes correspondence pertaining to her graduate work, and educational records. There are papers relating to her employment that contain lecture notes, addresses, correspondence, and committee work as well as records concerning the visits of faculty and her own travel. There are also several boxes of records from Thiel's stint as Program Chair of a symposium sponsored by the American Vacuum Society. The collection also contains grant proposals, reports, and notebooks where Thiel recorded information about her trips, meetings, seminars, conversations, and experiments. Dept. of Energy Laboratory notebooks (notes and telephone messages) are also included, with photocopies and microfilm copies being available at the DOE. The last two series contain over 100 of Thiel's publications that focus on surface adsorption; and photographs of her research groups and family.
