Simeon H. Newman collection.

ArchivalResource

Simeon H. Newman collection.

Consists of some of the personal papers of S.H. "Bud" Newman regarding his grandfather, Simeon Harrison Newman. Materials consist of two typewritten manuscripts, newspaper clippings, and the March 13, 1895 edition of "The Weekly Statement," a publication issued by the Mutual Life Insurance Company of New York. The first typewritten manuscript is a photocopy of an unpublished work written by the elder Newman around 1906 and is titled "Reminiscences of S.H. Newman." Although it was never finished, it contains an account of his first visit to El Paso, Texas, in 1876. The second manuscript, which is laminated and undated, was written by Dr. J.L. Waller, a professor of history at the Texas College of Mines (now the University of Texas at El Paso). This biographical sketch is titled "S. H. Newman: Editor of 'The Lone Star' of El Paso, Texas" and was evidently published in 1938.
