Summary: Collection consists of the personal and professional papers of Victor Higgins. Includes letters sent and received, financial and real estate documents, pamphlets, clippings, photographs, and one scrapbook. Among Higgins's personal papers are tax records, property deeds, documents from the divorce of his second wife Marion Koogler McNay Higgins, a genealogy of the Higgins family, and letters sent and received from family and friends. Includes letters from his daughter Joan Higgins Reed, a series of letters from Harriet Ropes Cabot, and a series of letters from actress Katharine Cornell. Higgins's professional papers consist primarily of materials on him and his artwork, such as biographical articles and an autobiographical essay, business cards, various items from his work as a member of the Chicago Society of Artists and the Taos Society of Artists, and letters from J. Oscar Davis concerning their partnership in creating mechanical inventions. Also within the collection are photographs of Higgins's artwork and the artwork of his father-in-law Sheldon Parsons, as well as documents involving a land dispute in Taos, New Mexico between Higgins and Mabel Dodge Luhan. Among these documents are a series of correspondence between Higgins and Luhan, and an abstract of title to Luhan for the disputed property, which was previously part of the Taos Pueblo Land Grant.
