Summary: Collection consists of the professional and private papers of Boaz W. Long. Professional papers include: correspondence pertaining to the merging of the Laboratory of Anthropology and the School of American Research (1947); papers and correspondence on the Council of ex-Ambassadors and various related subjects; Museum of New Mexico papers; and addresses and writings concerning Long's role as ambassador to several Latin American countries. Private papers contain correspondence with numerous friends and family, financial records, biographical and medical information, and his will. Also included are correspondence discussing the land dispute involving the Bosque del Apache and Pablo Armendaris land grants, (1948) and Arthur Figueroa's report cards from the Mount Hermon School, (1947-1948).

Elisha V. Long served as Chief Justice of the Territorial Supreme Court of New Mexico (1885-1890) and as the district attorney for the counties of Guadalupe, Mora, and San Miguel (1896-1899). Boaz Walton Long (9-27-1876 to 7-30-1962) was born in Warsaw, Indiana where his father held a judicial position. The Long family came to the Southwest in 1885 when President Grover Cleveland named Elisha V. Long Chief Justice of New Mexico.
