J.E. Brooks collection, 1927-1992.

Collection consists of commercial recordings (some original but primarily audiocassette copies) of music by the original Carter Family, A.P. Carter and family, Maybelle Carter and family, and printed matter (primarily photocopies from books, periodicals, and published articles) about the Carters. Also included is one cassette recording of the Virginia Boys (Doc Addington and Carl McConnell, brother and cousin, respectively, of Maybelle Carter), and one cassette recording of Peter Feldman.

A.P. Carter, his wife, Sara, and his sister-in-law Maybelle first recorded as the Carter Family in pioneering recording sessions at Bristol, Va., in 1927.
