The collection includes correspondence of the department chair, departmental memoranda and minutes of department committee meetings, departmental policy statements, reports of accreditation reviews and of audits, and files pertaining to the dept.'s curriculum and staff. Also included in the records are reports and memoranda pertaining to the reorganization of the dept. in 1987 and its subsequent disestablishment in 1994.

The Dept. of Physical Education was formed in the mid-1960s and offered programs in four general areas: conditioning, aquatics, individual sports, and team sports.
