University of California, San Diego. Dept. of Physical Education. Chair.

Hide Profile

The Dept. of Physical Education was formed in the mid-1960s and offered programs in four general areas: conditioning, aquatics, individual sports, and team sports. Prior to 1987, the dept. was comprised of three units: Instruction, Recreation, and Athletics. In 1987, the department was reorganized as the Dept. of Physical Education Instruction, with the former units Recreation and Athletics each being designated as two separate departments. In May 1994, the Dept. of Physical Education was disestablished because it was superfluous, in the opinion of UCSD's administration and Academic Senate.
